Legend has it that Mena Hill is owned by the deity "Ya Mena," who is married to "Pa Wusum." The best time to see the view is on a clear day when you're driving into Makeni after passing the checkpoint at Makoth. Slow down and take in the sight of Wusum Hill on one side and Mena Hill on the other, almost like they're reaching out to each other. The deities have been around for ages, and the views are amazing, making the culture of the area truly captivating.

Wusum hill stands above the city about 900 feet at the peak. This hill holds a historical belief of which it’s said to be owned by the deity “Pa Wusum, the husband of “Ya Mena”. The story of love and passion between those two, dives deep into northern myth and culture Wusum hill is an ideal place with an overwhelming breeze and a beautiful vantage point. The top of Wusum Hill, holds the top view of Makeni and much of Bombali District.

Camel Mountain

Have you heard of Camel Mountain in Binkolo? It's only a 20-minute drive away and it's a really cool mountain to climb! Legend has it that a camel from Futa Djallon once rested there after a long journey through the desert and the spiritual world. Some people also say that a giant took a break there on his way to northern Africa and never got up because the ground was so comfy and the night sky was so beautiful. The Makarie quarry is a stone mining site alongside the Freetown-Makeni highway, it has a very beautiful view of vegetation from the top. This is the quarry that built the mines. Following years of use it is now a source of income from local stone miners who sell of their cuts to home builders. The current structure makes for beautiful views form the top and a scenic and tranquil site for picnics.
